Kanbayashi Shunsho Matcha – Kouko no Shiro (香香の白) – 20 g & 40 g
Ceremonial-Grade Japanese Matcha – A Tribute to Wabi-Sabi

Kouko no Shiro, translating to “Fragrant White,” is a distinguished ceremonial-grade matcha from the storied Uji tea house Kanbayashi Shunsho, whose heritage dates back over 450 years. Crafted to commemorate the 400th anniversary of tea master Sen no Rikyū, this expression was favoured by Hōunsai, the 15th grand tea master of Urasenke.

Flavour Profile

  • Delicate umami, complemented by an elegant sweetness and a fresh, green character
  • While softer than its thicker counterpart, Soumei no Mukashi, it also carries a whisper of vanilla and warmth, embodying a quiet strength tinged with wabi-sabi philosophy - simple, yet powerful

Aroma & Texture

  • Rich, vivid green powder releases a light, floral fragrance
  • Stone-milled to achieve a silky froth and smooth mouthfeel, ideal for both usucha (thin tea) and more modern preparations

Why It Stands Out

  • Elegantly balances tradition and subtlety - bringing a “powerful simplicity” to every bowl
  • Perfect for mindful sippers craving ceremony without formality

Perfect For

  • Usucha rituals driven by intention and calm
  • Quiet ceremonial moments honoring simplicity
  • Light matcha lattes (hot or iced) that seek refinement over intensity
